Murray makes a move...

The UHI Strokeplay tournament continued this week, and what an eventful day it turned out to be. The headlines were stolen by team player Malcolm Murray, with a round of 68. The Brora based man showed no regard for the TPC at Tain, shooting a round of 68 that saw him leap up the leaderborard into second position. Murray now sits on a two round aggregate of 147, now just two shots behind leader Greg McBain who added a 72 to his opening 73 for a total of 145.

Murray, on a recent team practice session, enjoys a laugh with team-mates. However, Greg McBain is keeping an eye on him in the UHI strokeplay.

Jonathan Holmes is in sole possesion of third place, after a round of 76 left the self-confessed "statman" on 149. The big man was disappointed with his putting during the second round, but only four shots off the pace leaves him still in contention. Graham Gordon cemented his position near the top of the leaderboard with a round of 76 himself, giving the Dingwall man a 151 thirty-six hole aggregate. Despite not perfoming to the top of his talents, the Rod still finds himself in with a shout, and he is not a player to be written off.

However, the day belonged to Murray, and it looks as though the seasons first major is really starting to hot up.

The tournament continues this Wednesday (14th March). For television listings, contact your local broadcaster.

British University Championship

As winners of the Scottish University Winter League, the UHI Highlanders have been handed the opportunity of stepping it up a level with inclusion in the British University Championship. The draw was made last week, and has thrown the Highlanders up against the impressive Leeds University. One bonus for UHI is that the match will be played on home turf, at Tain Golf Club. Precise dates and times are yet to be confirmed.

In a suprise development, Leeds University were unable to play the tie during the given dates, and have had to concede the match. This allows the Highlanders a walkover into the next round, and the quest for further silverware very much still on.
